A lively spectacle of music and dance at the New Orleans Carnival.
New Orleans is thrilled to announce Howell Crosby as the Rex for the 2025 Carnival. A community leader with deep roots in New Orleans, Crosby plans to bring a spirit of service to his reign. Alongside him, Tatum Lady Reiss has been crowned Queen, marking a historic celebration during Carnival season. The duo’s connection to local traditions and commitment to making a difference promises an unforgettable Carnival experience for the city.
New Orleans is buzzing with excitement as Howell Crosby has been named the Rex, the King of the Carnival for 2025! This announcement adds to an illustrious legacy that has seen numerous esteemed individuals take on the iconic role throughout the years. With a rich background in civic duties and a successful business career, Crosby certainly stands out as a fitting choice.
Originally hailing from Picayune, Mississippi, and spending much of his youth in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Crosby has deep roots in the community. He attended the prestigious Metairie Park Country Day School before graduating from Tulane University. His professional journey has seen him become a partner at Chaffe McCall law firm, where he has made his mark in the legal field. But that’s just part of his story—Crosby has also dedicated his time to local government as a member of the New Orleans City Council.
Beyond his professional achievements, Crosby’s involvement in numerous nonprofits truly sets him apart. He has led Market Umbrella, the organization behind the beloved Crescent City Farmers Market, and has contributed to community initiatives such as revitalizing City Park and supporting the Louisiana Children’s Museum. After Hurricane Katrina, his efforts through the Pro Bono Publico Foundation focused on enhancing public education in the area—showing his unwavering dedication to the people of New Orleans.
The honor of being named Rex runs deep in Crosby’s family. His father was a member of the Rex organization for over 40 years, and his children have also taken on significant roles within the organization. This legacy adds an even deeper sense of meaning to his position as Rex for the upcoming carnival.
Alongside Crosby, Tatum Lady Reiss has been crowned the Queen of Carnival 2025. Currently a senior at the University of Arkansas, Reiss is no stranger to the rich traditions of New Orleans. A graduate of Isidore Newman School, this bright young woman learned of her royal title while abroad in Rome, thanks to a FaceTime call from her father who was sporting a Rex mask.
Service and philanthropy are central to Reiss’s character. She is actively involved in equine therapy, where she helps young people and veterans find support through this unique form of rehabilitation. Her commitment to making a positive change in others’ lives reflects her desire to utilize her position as Queen for the benefit of the community.
For the upcoming Rex Ball, Tatum’s gown—designed by the talented Suzanne Perron St. Paul—draws inspiration from Italy’s olive trees, symbolizing peace, solidarity, and friendship. What a beautiful representation of her values as she prepares for the grand celebrations!
This year, the traditional toast by Rex will take place outside of Pascal’s Manale restaurant, a location that holds special significance for Tatum and her family. This thoughtful change allows the carnival to celebrate not just its storied past but also the personal connections that make it so unique.
As Tatum and Howell step into their royal roles, they are focused on ensuring that the upcoming Carnival is a joyous occasion for all New Orleanians. With their dedication to service, rich family traditions, and a love for the city, the celebrations promise to be unforgettable. So mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate the enchanting spirit of New Orleans as we joyously welcome Rex and his Queen for what is sure to be an exhilarating Carnival in 2025!
