A true Texan at heart, Mary Katherine Brady was born in Houston on November 29, 1930, but always embraced her adopted city with open arms.

A Journey from Houston to New Orleans

Mary Katherine’s journey began in Houston where she attended St. Agnes Academy, graduating in 1949. Her thirst for knowledge then took her to Loyola University in New Orleans. At Loyola, her vibrant spirit shone brightly as she earned the title of Campus Queen and joined the ranks of the illustrious Cardinal Key society.

A Love Story and a Life of Service

Shortly after graduating, she met the love of her life, Thomas Casey, and their whirlwind romance led to 65 years of shared life and laughter. As her husband embarked on a successful political career in the Louisiana Legislature, Mary Katherine took on the vital role of campaign manager, effectively advocating for family values and their shared faith in the community.

Mary Katherine wasn’t just a support system for her husband; she actively volunteered at their children’s schools, including the esteemed Ursuline Academy and Jesuit High School. Her leadership even extended to the Archdiocese of New Orleans where she chaired Pre-Cana, supporting couples as they prepared for marriage.

Community Advocate and Catholic Leader

Beyond education, Mary Katherine was a stalwart advocate for many causes. She held leadership roles such as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of New Orleans Junior Chamber of Commerce and served on boards that focused on nursing care quality and the arts. Her love for New Orleans was evident in her work as a tour guide for over 20 years, sharing the city’s rich history and culture with visitors.

Her deep commitment to her faith shaped her daily life as she attended Mass regularly and mentored participants in various Catholic organizations. Mary Katherine was a cherished member of multiple parishes, including St. Rita and Holy Name of Jesus Church, and received the esteemed Order of St. Louis Medallion Award for her dedicated service.

A Legacy of Family and Love
